Robotic picking is really just taking that next level up from hands-free picking as it is effectively people- free. The progress made in that application is with robotics within distribution, is largely centered around a goods to person (G2P) application. Automation is generating a goods to person, or in this case goods to robot, for the robot to pick, as opposed to having an operator pick it. One of the biggest advancements in robotics for the warehouse is goods to person picking. Robots have typically been used to transport orders by persons.
That’s been around much longer than, goods to person robotic picking. Both are forms of eliminating the labor associated with travel. All of these things center around the fact that the average warehouse associate spends 60 plus percent of their time traveling or walking. That’s a significant number in terms of labor costs, so with automating goods to person, using hands-free and robotic picking, a business is can reduce its labor costs.
